Defoamers are the anti- foaming chemical additives that contain a blend of activated silicone oil and surfactants. These types of agents are primarily used in industrial process liquids to reduce the foam formation. Formation of the foam can cause defects on surface coatings and prevent the efficient filling of containers. In addition to reduction in the foam generation, this type of additive also controls its complete generation in the industrial liquid. IT HAS Lower surface tension, compared to organic antifoams. Insoluble in most systems. Tends to react less with process ingredients. Persistence – generally performs longer. Can cost less to use due to its effectiveness and persistence at low use levels

A defoamer or an anti-foaming agent is a chemical additive that reduces and hinders the formation of foam in process liquids. The terms anti-foam agent and defoamer are often used interchangeably. Commonly used agents are insoluble oils, polydimethylsiloxanes and other silicones, certain alcohols, stearates and glycols. The additive is used to prevent formation of foam or is added to break a foam already formed. In industrial processes, foams pose serious problems. They cause defects on surface coatings and prevent the efficient filling of containers. A variety of chemical formulae are available to prevent formation of foams. Generally a defoamer is insoluble in the foaming medium and has surface active properties. An essential feature of a defoamer product is a low viscosity and a facility to spread rapidly on foamy surfaces. It has affinity to the air-liquid surface where it destabilizes the foam lamellas. This causes rupture of the air bubbles and breakdown of surface foam. Entrained air bubbles are agglomerated, and the larger bubbles rise to the surface of the bulk liquid more quickly.

Foaming is a property that demands immediate solution in order to achieve high productivity. Nature of foam differs depending on the industry involved. However, it always occurs as a concentrated dispersion of air or gas bubbles in a liquid medium which is stabilized by impurities, i.e. fine solid suspensions, surfactants, proteins, starches, etc.
Defoamer is a versatile product that combines stability with excellent defoaming action. Silicone defoamer are generally preferred for better stability and more lasting defoaming power in very small concentrations. Our Defoamer is extremely cost effective, as it is designed to work efficiently and economically.

The additive is used to prevent formation of foam or is added to break foam already formed. Silicone-based defoamer are polymers with silicon backbones. These might be delivered as oil or a water based emulsion. The silicone compound consists of a hydrophobic silica dispersed in a silicone oil. Emulsifiers are added to ensure that the silicone spreads fast and well in the foaming medium. The silicone compound might also contain silicone glycols and other modified silicone fluids. These are also heavy duty defoamer and are good at both knocking down surface foam and releasing entrained air.

Defoamer is used in a pulp mill and a paper mill to reduce foam problems. It tackles both problems with surface foam and entrained or entrapped air. Defoamer also hinders the formation of foam. Deformers are surface active agents such as esters or amides of fatty acids and polyethylene glycols. It is also called antifoaming agent. Defoamer has surfactant properties. Defoamer is highly insoluble in the foaming water medium. The viscosity of defoamer is very low therefore it is spread very rapidly on foamy surfaces as tiny droplets. Defoamer has affinity to spread air-liquid interface and this is the causes for collapse of surface foam.
